An ARK, or Archival Resource Key, is a persistent identifier designed to identify digital, physical, or abstract objects. ARK identifiers are open, flexible, decentralized, and suitable for long-term access to resources. An ARK can identify articles, books, chapters, datasets, archives, cultural objects, educational materials, and other types of resources.
An ARK usually includes a Name Assigning Authority Number, called NAAN, which identifies the organization or authority assigning the ARK. A GateBreakOpen ARK may follow a simple chronological structure, such as: ark:/NAAN/gatebreakopen.article.2026.0001.
